- Number #1 will connect at only 14.4 no matter what modem your
- connecting to assuming it really is a Courier v.32bis. Of course, it's
- possible that this modem was orignally a 14.4 v.32bis modem which has
- since had it's daughterboard upgraded to be either a 16.8/14.4 Dual
- Standard, 21.6 Terbo or Dual, or 28.8 v.34. The best way to tell is to
- plug the modem in and send it an ATI7 command and look at the top to see
- what protocols it supports.
-
- As for number 2, it's either a 28.8 or 33.6, depending on which
- firmware (FlashROM code) is loaded into the modem. If it's only a 28.8
- now, you can download the newest code (Supervisory code date 1/23/96)
- off the USR BBS or FTP site..

-
- Unless the modem has been daughterboard upgraded to 28.8, then no,
- it doesn't have FlashROM. Of course, you could always order the
- daughterboard upgrade yourself (assuming this model HAS a daughterboard to
- be upgraded, I think all the v.32bis only Couriers did, but some of the
- early ones might not have). The cost of the new 33.6 v.34 daughterboard
- is $99 or $199 (depending on whether or not you meet USRs criteria for
- getting it at a discount). This upgrade is done through the USR BBS.

- Try setting up the modems with AT&F1 (the factory defaults) and
- see if that works.
